Mechanism of Action
Chitosan is a deacetylated polysaccharide derived from chitin. It interacts with biological membranes via electrostatic attraction between its positively charged amino groups and negatively charged phospholipids. This imparts antimicrobial activity, enhances mucoadhesion and modifies cellular permeability. Chitosan also modulates immune responses and supports woundhealing processes by promoting fibroblast migration and extracellularmatrix formation.
