Product Description
Mechanism of action
Betulin is a pentacyclic triterpenoid derived from birch bark. It modulates multiple biochemical pathways including anti‑inflammatory signalling (NF‑κB inhibition), antioxidant activity, mitochondrial function and lipid metabolism. Betulin also serves as a biosynthetic precursor for more active derivatives such as betulinic acid.
Benefits and advantages
Used in natural‑product chemistry, antiviral research, inflammatory‑pathway modelling, mitochondrial‑function studies, lipid‑metabolism experiments and medicinal‑chemistry optimisation of triterpenoid scaffolds.
Side effects and risks
Generally well tolerated in research settings but may cause mild irritation or hepatic enzyme elevation at high concentrations. Handle as a hydrophobic bioactive phytochemical.
