Mechanism of Action
Ethambutol inhibits arabinosyl transferases (EmbA/B/C), enzymes essential for polymerization of arabinogalactan, a key component of the mycobacterial cell wall. Disruption weakens the wall structure and enhances susceptibility to other antimycobacterial agents.

Used in mycobacterial‑cell wall studies, arabinogalactan‑biosynthesis research, TB drug synergy assays, and resistance‑mechanism modelling.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include optic neuritis (dose‑related), visual‑acuity changes, red‑green color blindness and GI upset. Handle with antimycobacterial‑agent precautions.
