Product Description
Mechanism of action
Brodimoprim is a diaminopyrimidine antibiotic structurally related to trimethoprim. It selectively inhibits bacterial dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), blocking the conversion of dihydrofolate to tetrahydrofolate and thereby inhibiting DNA, RNA and protein synthesis in susceptible organisms.
Benefits and advantages
Used in DHFR‑enzyme studies, folate‑pathway research, antibacterial‑mechanism modelling, antibiotic‑resistance investigation and structure–activity optimisation of diaminopyrimidines. Often combined with sulfonamides for synergy testing.
Side effects and risks
Risks include hypersensitivity reactions, GI disturbance, hematologic effects (e.g., megaloblastic changes) and potential drug–drug interactions. Handle as an antimicrobial API.
