Product Description
Mechanism of action
Axithromycin is referenced as a macrolide‑type antibiotic analogous to azithromycin, functioning by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibiting translocation of the peptidyl‑tRNA complex. This interruption of bacterial protein synthesis produces broad‑spectrum bacteriostatic activity.
Benefits and advantages
Used in ribosomal binding studies, macrolide SAR research, efflux pump transporter analysis, and comparative pharmacokinetic evaluations of macrolide analogues. Particularly useful in modelling acid‑stable macrolide designs.
Side effects and risks
Adverse effects similar to other macrolides include QT prolongation, hepatic enzyme elevation, diarrhoea and drug‑interaction potential via CYP450 modulation. Handle with antibiotic safety controls.
