PENTAMIDINE

Pentamidine isethionate is an antiprotozoal agent that interferes with nucleic acid and protein synthesis in organisms such as Pneumocystis jirovecii and trypanosomes. It is used for treatment and prophylaxis of pneumocystis pneumonia and African trypanosomiasis. Side effects include hypotension, nephrotoxicity, hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, pancreatitis, and hematologic abnormalities, requiring careful monitoring.
