Mechanism of Action
Etretinate is a lipophilic aromatic retinoid that binds nuclear RAR/RXR receptors, altering gene transcription involved in epithelial differentiation and keratinization. It accumulates in adipose tissue with a very long biological halflife.

Used in retinoidreceptor research, keratinocyte differentiation studies, autoimmune skindisease modelling, and generegulation assays.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include teratogenicity, hepatotoxicity, hyperlipidemia, mucocutaneous dryness and photosensitivity. Handle with highpotency retinoid precautions.
