Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Esomeprazole is the S‑isomer of omeprazole and a proton‑pump inhibitor that irreversibly inhibits the H⁺/K⁺‑ATPase pump on gastric parietal cells. This suppresses basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion. The magnesium salt enhances stability and absorption.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in gastric‑acid secretion research, proton‑pump inhibition modelling, enantiomer‑selective PK/PD studies, and gastrointestinal mucosal protection assays.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include hypomagnesemia, B12 deficiency, increased fracture risk (long term) and rare renal injury. Handle with PPI‑class precautions.
