Mechanism of Action
Eplerenone is a selective mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) antagonist that blocks aldosteronemediated sodium retention, potassium excretion and cardiovascular fibrosis. More selective than spironolactone, it avoids androgen/progesterone receptor crossreactivity.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hyperkalemia, hypotension, dizziness and renal impairment. Handle with MRantagonist precautions.
