Mechanism of Action
Econazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450‑dependent 14‑α‑demethylase, blocking conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. This disrupts cell‑membrane synthesis, increasing permeability and causing fungal death. It is active against dermatophytes, yeasts and some molds.

Used in fungal‑cell‑membrane research, azole‑mechanism assays, ergosterol‑biosynthesis modelling, and antifungal‑resistance studies.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include local irritation, burning, erythema, contact dermatitis and rare systemic absorption effects. Handle with azole‑antifungal precautions.
