Mechanism of Action
Crystal violet is a triarylmethane dye that binds strongly to peptidoglycan and nucleic acids. It acts as a cationic antiseptic and is used as the primary stain in Gram staining by forming a crystalvioletiodine complex that is retained by Grampositive bacteria.
