Mechanism of Action
Clonidine hydrochloride is an 2adrenergic receptor agonist that reduces sympathetic outflow from the CNS. It suppresses norepinephrine release, lowers peripheral vascular resistance and modulates pain transmission through spinal 2 receptors. It also influences imidazoline receptor pathways.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hypotension, bradycardia, sedation, rebound hypertension on withdrawal and dry mouth. Handle as a potent 2agonist.
