Mechanism of Action
Clinofibrate is a fibrate‑class hypolipidemic agent that activates peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor‑alpha (PPAR‑α). Activation enhances β‑oxidation of fatty acids, increases lipoprotein‑lipase activity, lowers serum triglycerides and promotes HDL elevation. It also modulates inflammatory gene expression and improves lipid‑transport efficiency.

Used in hepatic‑lipid metabolism research, PPAR‑α signalling studies, dyslipidemia‑modelling experiments, triglyceride‑lowering drug‑screening assays and fibrate SAR investigations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hepatotoxicity, myopathy (higher risk with statins), gallstone formation, GI upset and elevated liver enzymes. Handle with PPAR‑active compound precautions.
