Mechanism of Action
Chlorthialidone hydrochloride is a highly soluble salt form of chlorthalidone with identical mechanisms: inhibition of the distaltubular Na⁺/Cl symporter, reduced plasma volume, longacting antihypertensive effect and improved calcium retention. The HCl form improves formulation stability and aqueous handling.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include electrolyte depletion, insulin resistance, hyperuricemia, dizziness, muscle cramps and dehydration. Handle following diureticclass precautions.
