Mechanism of Action
Chlorphenoxamine is a diphenyl etherderived H-antihistamine with strong anticholinergic and antispasmodic activity. It blocks H receptors and muscarinic receptors, reducing allergic symptoms while also diminishing smooth-muscle contractions in the GI and respiratory tract. Its central nervous system penetration produces mild sedative effects.

Used in H-antihistamine pharmacology research, anticholinergic-pathway modelling, smooth-muscle inhibition studies, motion-sickness research and behavioural pharmacology evaluations. Serves as a reference compound in multi-target antihistamine studies.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include sedation, blurred vision, tachycardia, dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation and impaired psychomotor function. Handle using anticholinergic-compound precautions.
