Mechanism of action
Carbinoxamine maleate is a first-generation H-antihistamine with significant anticholinergic and sedative properties. It competitively antagonises histamine at H receptors, reducing vasodilation, capillary permeability and sensory-nerve activation. Its central penetration leads to drowsiness and antiemetic effects.

Used in allergy research, histamine-receptor pharmacology, sedating-antihistamine comparison studies, anticholinergic-burden modelling and motion-sickness pathway investigations. Its broad receptor profile makes it useful for multi-target interaction analysis.
Side effects and risks
Risks include pronounced sedation, cognitive impairment, dry mouth, urinary retention, blurred vision and tachycardia. Handle with CNS-active antihistamine precautions.
