Product Description

Mechanism of action

Racemic camphor is a bicyclic monoterpene composed of equal mixtures of (+) and (–) enantiomers. It acts on transient receptor potential (TRP) channels—particularly TRPV3 and TRPA1—producing cooling, counterirritant and mild analgesic effects. It enhances cutaneous blood flow and alters nociceptor signalling.

Benefits and advantages

Used in TRP-channel research, dermal-perfusion studies, counterirritant modelling, botanical-terpenoid investigations and analgesic-mechanism comparisons involving natural monoterpenes.

Side effects and risks

Risks include CNS excitation at high doses, skin irritation, respiratory distress (if inhaled excessively) and toxicity in children. Handle with dermal and inhalation precautions.
