Mechanism of action
Butofilolol is a non-selective β-adrenergic receptor antagonist exhibiting partial agonist (ISA) properties. It binds to β₁ and β₂ receptors, decreasing heart rate, myocardial oxygen demand and contractility while exerting mild intrinsic β stimulation in resting states, reducing bradycardia risk compared to pure antagonists.

Used in cardiovascular-receptor studies, β-receptor selectivity modelling, adrenergic signalling research, arrhythmia models and comparisons of ISA vs non-ISA beta-blockers in functional assays.
Side effects and risks
Risks include bronchoconstriction, fatigue, dizziness, bradycardia, hypotension and masking of hypoglycaemia. Handle using beta-blocker safety protocols.
