Product Description
Mechanism of action
Butamirate is a centrally acting non-opioid antitussive that suppresses cough by modulating the medullary cough centre and inhibiting vagal afferent signalling. Unlike opioids, it lacks direct μ‑receptor activity and does not cause respiratory depression or dependence.
Benefits and advantages
Used in cough-reflex pathway studies, brainstem neurophysiology, vagal-afferent modulation research, antitussive SAR investigations and respiratory-control modelling. It is a reference compound for non-opioid central cough suppression.
Side effects and risks
Risks include dizziness, mild sedation, nausea and rare hypersensitivity. Handle under CNS-modulating compound safety guidelines.
