Product Description

Mechanism of action

Butamben is a lipophilic ester local anaesthetic that inhibits voltage-gated sodium channels in sensory nerves, producing surface-level and mucosal anaesthesia. Its high hydrophobicity allows prolonged receptor occupancy and sustained analgesia. It is commonly used in combination with other anaesthetics to extend local effect.

Benefits and advantages

Used in topical-anaesthesia research, sodium-channel modulation studies, dermal-penetration modelling, multi-agent anaesthetic formulation testing and peripheral nerve blockade experiments.

Side effects and risks

Risks include methemoglobinemia (rare), allergic reactions typical of ester anaesthetics, CNS toxicity at high exposure and local irritation. Employ topical-anaesthetic safety protocols.
