Product Description
Mechanism of action
Bupropion is a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) that increases synaptic NE and DA by blocking their respective transporters. It also acts as a non-competitive nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist, contributing to anti-addictive properties. Its stimulant-like profile contrasts with traditional antidepressants.
Benefits and advantages
Used in depression research, addiction-modelling studies (particularly nicotine dependence), neurochemical transport studies, dopaminergic–noradrenergic pathway analysis and receptor-occupancy modelling.
Side effects and risks
Risks include insomnia, hypertension, anxiety, seizure risk (dose-dependent), dry mouth and agitation. Handle as a CNS-stimulant and transporter-modulating compound.
