Mechanism of action
Bromperidol is a highly potent butyrophenone antipsychotic that strongly antagonises dopamine D₂ receptors, producing robust antipsychotic and anti-agitation effects. It also interacts with D₃, 5‑HT₂ and adrenergic receptors, contributing to its pharmacological profile.

Side effects and risks
Risks include profound extrapyramidal symptoms, dysphoria, QT prolongation, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, sedation and endocrine disturbances. Handle with high‑potency neuroleptic safety precautions.
