Product Description

Mechanism of action

Benoxinate HCl is an ester-type local anaesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in sensory nerves, preventing action potential initiation and propagation. It is primarily used in ophthalmic anaesthesia.

Benefits and advantages

Used in ocular pharmacology, corneal nerve-mapping studies, anaesthetic penetration research and sodium-channel physiology experiments. Its rapid onset makes it useful for short-duration sensory-block modelling.

Side effects and risks

Risks include corneal irritation, allergic reactions, CNS toxicity upon systemic absorption and potential cardiac depression at high exposure levels. Handle under local-anaesthetic safety protocols.
