ACEFYLLINE
Acefylline is a xanthine derivative with bronchodilatory and mild diuretic effects via phosphodiesterase inhibition and adenosine receptor modulation. It supports respiratory function in obstructive airway disorders. Benefits include improved airflow and mucociliary clearance. Side effects may include insomnia, tachycardia, gastrointestinal upset, and nervousness, especially at high doses.

Product Description
Mechanism of action
Acefylline is a xanthine derivative with bronchodilator and mild cardiostimulant properties. It inhibits phosphodiesterase activity, leading to increased intracellular cyclic AMP, relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and enhanced diaphragmatic contractility. It may also exert mild diuretic and central nervous system stimulant effects.
Benefits and advantages
As a xanthine‑based compound, acefylline is used in certain respiratory and circulatory indications and serves as a useful intermediate in combination products aimed at improving microcirculation or alertness. Its pharmacological profile is well characterised, facilitating controlled formulation development.
Side effects and risks
Adverse reactions typical of xanthines include tachycardia, palpitations, gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, restlessness and insomnia. At higher exposures, arrhythmias or seizures may occur, particularly in susceptible patients or when combined with other stimulants. Therapeutic use in humans requires careful dose titration and monitoring of serum levels where applicable. Appropriate protective measures should be in place when handling the API.
