Mechanism of Action

Gemfibrozil activates PPAR-, altering transcription of genes involved in fatty-acid oxidation and lipoprotein metabolism, reducing triglycerides and modulating HDL levels.

Side Effects and Risks

Risk of gallstones, GI upset, liver enzyme elevation and myopathy (especially with statins).
