Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Etidronate disodium is a first‑generation bisphosphonate that binds strongly to hydroxyapatite in bone. It inhibits osteoclast‑mediated bone resorption by interfering with ATP‑dependent intracellular pathways and inducing osteoclast apoptosis. Because etidronate also affects mineralization at high doses, it has dual actions on bone turnover and calcification.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in bone‑remodelling pathway studies, hydroxyapatite‑binding research, osteoclast inhibition assays, and metabolic‑bone‑disease modelling.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include hypocalcemia, osteomalacia (high doses), GI irritation, and rare atypical calcification disturbances. Handle with bisphosphonate‑class precautions.
