Mechanism of Action
Eplerenone is a selective mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) antagonist that blocks aldosterone‑mediated sodium retention, potassium excretion and cardiovascular fibrosis. More selective than spironolactone, it avoids androgen/progesterone receptor cross‑reactivity.

Used in aldosterone‑pathway modelling, MR‑signalling research, cardiac‑remodelling studies, and renal‑electrolyte regulation assays.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hyperkalemia, hypotension, dizziness and renal impairment. Handle with MR‑antagonist precautions.
