Mechanism of Action

Enoxacine is a fluoroquinolone that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (GyrA/GyrB) and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication and segregation. It exhibits strong gram‑negative activity and good intracellular penetration.

Used in DNA‑replication inhibition studies, topoisomerase‑interaction assays, bacterial‑kinetics research, and resistance‑mutation profiling.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include tendon rupture, neuropathy, CNS overstimulation, hepatotoxicity and QT prolongation. Handle with quinolone‑class precautions.
