Mechanism of Action
Enalapril maleate is a prodrug converted to enalaprilat, a potent ACE (angiotensin‑converting enzyme) inhibitor. It blocks conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, reducing vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion and blood pressure. It also increases bradykinin levels through reduced degradation.

Used in renin‑angiotensin‑system modelling, ACE‑inhibition studies, cardiovascular pharmacodynamics, and endothelial‑function research.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include cough, hypotension, hyperkalemia, angioedema and renal impairment. Handle with ACE‑inhibitor precautions.
