Mechanism of Action

Cyproheptadine hydrochloride is an H₁ antihistamine and serotonin (5‑HT₂) antagonist with anticholinergic and appetite‑stimulating properties. It blocks central and peripheral H₁ receptors and inhibits serotonin‑mediated satiety pathways.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in appetite‑modulation studies, serotonin‑pathway research, allergy‑modelling, migraine‑pathophysiology investigations and antihistamine SAR work.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include sedation, weight gain, dry mouth, dizziness and paradoxical CNS excitation. Handle with CNS‑active antihistamine precautions.
