Product Description
Mechanism of Action
Colistimethate sodium is an inactive prodrug converted to colistin (polymyxin E), a cationic lipopeptide antibiotic. Active colistin binds lipid A within gram‑negative bacterial outer membranes, disrupting membrane integrity and causing rapid cell death. It is highly effective against multidrug‑resistant *Pseudomonas*, *Acinetobacter* and *Klebsiella* species.

Used in MDR‑pathogen modelling, polymyxin‑binding studies, membrane‑permeabilization assays, endotoxin neutralization research and PK/PD evaluations in resistant‑bacteria simulations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, neuromuscular blockade and hypersensitivity. Handle with strict polymyxin‑safety protocols.
