Mechanism of Action
Clofoctol is a bacteriostatic antibacterial agent that disrupts bacterial protein synthesis by interacting with ribosomal subunits and impairing mRNA translation efficiency. It accumulates in lung and bronchial tissues, making it useful in respiratory‑pathogen research. Clofoctol also modulates endoplasmic‑reticulum (ER) stress signalling and may induce UPR‑mediated apoptosis in selected cellular models.

Used in respiratory‑pathogen modelling (*S. pneumoniae*, *H. influenzae*), ER‑stress pathway studies, protein‑translation research, intracellular drug‑accumulation assays and membrane‑interaction investigations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include GI discomfort, allergic reactions, hepatic enzyme elevations and drowsiness. Handle with antibacterial‑agent precautions.
