It acts as a cysteine donor, improves mitochondrial function, reduces oxidative stress and supports hepatocellular repair processes. It also modulates amino acid metabolism.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in hepatoprotection research, glutathione-pathway modelling, oxidative-stress studies, mitochondrial bioenergetics assays, toxicology research and antioxidant SAR investigations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include GI upset, sulfur-odor excretion, hypersensitivity reactions and rare hepatic enzyme alterations. Handle with antioxidant–thiol compound precautions.
