Product Description
Mechanism of Action
Chloropyramine is a first‑generation H₁‑antihistamine that competitively antagonises histamine at H₁ receptors. It reduces vasodilation, vascular permeability and pruritus. It also exhibits anticholinergic and sedative properties due to central H₁‑receptor penetration. Often used in acute allergic reactions and urticaria research.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in histamine‑signalling models, allergy-pathway research, H₁‑binding assays, sedating‑antihistamine comparisons, and studies exploring cross‑reactivity with cholinergic receptors. Its strong CNS penetration provides value in behavioural pharmacology models.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include sedation, cognitive impairment, anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, urinary retention), hypotension, dizziness and rare cardiac‑conduction abnormalities. Handle as a CNS‑active antihistamine.
