Product Description

Mechanism of action

Cefotaxime is a thirdgeneration cephalosporin known for strong gramnegative activity and good CNS penetration. It binds multiple PBPs in Enterobacteriaceae and inhibits cell-wall synthesis. Its active metabolite, desacetylcefotaxime, also possesses antimicrobial activity. It is a cornerstone molecule in meningitis research due to effective CSF penetration.

Benefits and advantages

Used in CNS infection modelling, PBPs binding studies, ESBL-producing organism research, neonatal sepsis models, lactamase-resistance investigations and advanced cephalosporin SAR profiling.

Side effects and risks

Risks include hypersensitivity, GI symptoms, risk of C. difficile overgrowth, hepatic disturbances and rare neutropenia. Handle with antimicrobial precautions.

Only GMP materials will be supplied, logistics all according to GDP.
