Mechanism of action
Cefepime hydrochloride is a fourth-generation cephalosporin with broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, including many Enterobacteriaceae and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. It penetrates outer membranes efficiently and binds multiple PBPs, while demonstrating enhanced stability against many chromosomal -lactamases.

Used in severe hospital-infection research, febrile-neutropenia models, ESBL- and AmpC-producing pathogen studies, -lactamase mechanism analyses, PK/PD optimisation research and critical-care antimicrobial stewardship modelling.
Side effects and risks
Risks include neurotoxicity (encephalopathy, seizures) particularly in renal impairment, allergic reactions, GI disturbances and selection of resistant strains. Handle with high-potency -lactam precautions.
