Mechanism of action
Potassium canrenoate is a water-soluble prodrug of canrenone, a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. It blocks aldosterone binding in the distal nephron, reducing sodium reabsorption and potassium excretion. This leads to natriuresis, mild diuresis and reduced fibrosis signalling.

Side effects and risks
Risks include hyperkalaemia, renal dysfunction, endocrine disturbances (gynecomastia), hypotension and GI upset. Handle with careful electrolyte-monitoring protocols.
