Mechanism of action
A water-soluble glucocorticoid ester rapidly converted to active betamethasone. Its high solubility allows rapid onset of antiinflammatory activity. Mechanistically, the compound suppresses cytokine signalling, reduces immunecell activation and inhibits phospholipase Amediated eicosanoid synthesis.

Used in injectable-formulation research, acute-inflammation models, receptor-pharmacodynamics studies and emergency glucocorticoid-response modelling. Provides a benchmark for rapidacting corticosteroid preparations.
Side effects and risks
