Mechanism of action
Berbamine is a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid exhibiting calcium-channelblocking activity, immunomodulatory effects and selective anti-leukaemic properties. It inhibits NF-B signalling, regulates intracellular Ca²⁺ homeostasis and modulates B-cell and T-cell responses. Berbamine also affects apoptosis pathways through Bcl-2 family protein interactions.

Berbamine is important in cancer pharmacology (particularly chronic myeloid leukaemia research), ion-channel studies, immune signalling investigations and apoptosis-pathway elucidation. Its multitarget nature provides a versatile tool for mechanistic modelling.
