Mechanism of action
Aminopromazine fumarate is a phenothiazine tranquilliser functioning primarily as a dopamine D₂ receptor antagonist, with secondary blockade of muscarinic, α₁‑adrenergic and histamine H₁ receptors. The combined receptor profile produces sedation, anxiolysis, antiemesis and behavioural suppression.

Used extensively in veterinary sedation and research models requiring controlled CNS depression. It provides reliable pre-anaesthetic calming and strong antiemetic effects, making it a useful comparator compound in neuropharmacology studies.
Side effects and risks
Possible extrapyramidal symptoms, profound hypotension, anticholinergic reactions, hypothermia and—in rare instances—neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Personnel must avoid dermal and inhalational exposure.
