ACTINOMYCIN D

Actinomycin D is an antitumor antibiotic that binds tightly to DNA at guaninecytosine-rich regions, blocking RNA polymerase and inhibiting transcription. It is widely used in oncology, including Wilms tumor and gestational trophoblastic disease. Benefits include strong cytostatic activity. Risks include myelosuppression, hepatotoxicity, mucositis, and gastrointestinal upset, requiring careful monitoring during therapy. Only GMP materials will be supplied, logistics all according to GDP.

Product Description

Mechanism of action

Actinomycin D (dactinomycin) is a polypeptide antibiotic with potent antineoplastic activity. It binds to doublestranded DNA at guaninecytosinerich regions, intercalating between base pairs and inhibiting RNA polymerasemediated transcription. This interference with nucleic acid synthesis leads to apoptosis of rapidly dividing cells.

Benefits and advantages

Actinomycin D is an established component of chemotherapy protocols for childhood malignancies such as Wilms tumour, rhabdomyosarcoma and certain gestational trophoblastic diseases. Its welldefined mechanism and long clinical experience make it an important reference compound in oncology.

Side effects and risks

Toxicities include severe myelosuppression, mucositis, gastrointestinal disturbances, alopecia and potential hepatotoxicity. Extravasation can cause intense local tissue necrosis. As a highly cytotoxic agent, it must be handled only under rigorous cytotoxicdrug safety procedures.

Professional use only. Supplied exclusively to licensed oncology centres and manufacturers.

Only GMP materials will be supplied, logistics all according to GDP.
